The History of Double Six Beach

The beach got its name after a plane crash on April 21, 1970, where a local flight crashed near the beach, killing all 96 passengers, including Indonesian military officials. A monument called the Double Six Monument was built to commemorate the event. In the 1980s, the beach became known among international surfers for its good waves. In the 1990s, the area developed rapidly and turned into a popular tourist destination. However, in 2002, Bali suffered terrorist attacks, one of which was at Double Six Beach, resulting in 20 deaths and over 100 injuries. Tourism declined drastically after this incident, and the area took almost ten years to recover. In 2011, the area around the beach was renovated to attract more visitors, and in 2018, Double Six launched an official beach cleaning campaign to become one of the cleanest beaches in Bali.

Double Six Beach is located at the end of Seminyak Beach, Bali, which is in the south of the island. The beach is located in Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia, and is north of Double Six Road, which connects Seminyak and Legian. From Kuta Beach, you just need to follow the route towards Legian Road and continue towards Seminyak Road. After driving for about 2 km, you will come across an intersection, where you can turn left. About 200 meters from there, you’ll see directions to Beach 66 or Double Six Beach.

• Explore Seminyak on Foot or by Bicycle: Seminyak and almost all places in it are within walking distance, so you can easily get around in this area by walking or cycling.
• Be Careful of the Waves: This beach is less suitable for swimming and most water sports other than surfing, as the waves are quite strong. However, you can still swim in the shallow area right in front of the sand.
• Keep the Beach Clean: Please do not litter this beach. Seminyak faces pollution issues on some of its beaches, so it’s best to avoid contributing to that. You could also join in voluntary beach cleaning exercises to give a little back to the local community during your stay.
